Trump Rejects Leaked Iran Deal Terms as Araghchi Says MOU Near

Trump alleges unconfirmed drone attack on Indian ships as both sides confirm a deal is in motion

President Donald Trump said terms of an Iran-US deal leaked to the media bear no relation to what was agreed in writing, while Iran’s foreign minister said the memorandum “has never been closer.”

The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing. — PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, ON TRUTH SOCIAL

Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social. He dismissed Iran’s statement on the deal as “weak and pathetic” and accused Tehran of bad faith. “Very dishonorable people to deal with,” he wrote.

His post indicated that written terms have been agreed between the two sides, though he did not describe them.

Trump also said Iran carried out a drone attack the previous night against Indian ships leaving the Strait of Hormuz. He said the attack was “totally rebuffed” and called it “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,” warning Iran to “get their act together, and FAST!” The claim could not be confirmed from the available material, and Iran has not commented on it.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, writing on X, referred to the document as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and said it “has never been closer.”

Araghchi urged the media to “refrain from entering speculation” about the document’s content pending its finalization. He said all details will be shared with the public “in due course,” citing what he called Iran’s responsible and transparent approach.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that a final, agreed text of the peace deal has been reached, saying Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps.

Writing on X amid what he described as Pakistan’s intense mediation efforts, Sharif said his government is aware of an “incessant misinformation campaign” by those seeking to sabotage the deal. “Peace has never been this close as it is now,” he wrote.

The exchange followed a Mehr News report that quoted an unnamed source close to Iran’s negotiating team as saying a 14-point draft of the understanding had been published. At that time, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said that institutions inside Iran still had to approve the text.
