President Donald Trump said Sunday that negotiations with Iran are moving forward, but warned that what he called a blockade will remain in place until a final agreement is reached, certified and signed.
“The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump said he told his representatives not to rush the process. “Time is on our side,” he wrote, describing the talks as proceeding in an “orderly and constructive manner.”
The president drew a sharp contrast with the Iran nuclear deal reached under former President Barack Obama. Trump called that agreement “one of the worst deals ever made” by the United States and claimed it put Iran on “a direct path” to developing a nuclear weapon.
The current negotiations, Trump said, represent “the exact opposite.”
Trump said Iran must understand that it “cannot develop or procure a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb.”
He also said the U.S. relationship with Iran is becoming “a much more professional and productive one,” and thanked Middle Eastern countries for what he called their support and cooperation.
Trump also suggested Iran could possibly join the Abraham Accords.
“Who knows, perhaps the Islamic Republic of Iran would like to join, as well!” he wrote.
Trump did not name the representatives conducting the talks or provide a timeline for reaching a deal.
