Trump Denies Knowing About Reported Plan to Remove FDA Commissioner Marty Makary

Trump said he knew nothing about reports of a possible FDA leadership change, while news outlets said discussions over Marty Makary’s future were underway.

President Donald Trump on Friday evening denied knowing about reports that he may replace FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, despite news outlets reported that White House officials approved a possible leadership change at the agency.

“I’ve been reading about it, but I know nothing about it,” Trump said, according to The Washington Post.

Reuters said that the White House had signed off on a plan to remove Makary, citing sources familiar with the matter. Two sources described the decision as not final, while another source close to the White House said Trump had approved the move, according to Reuters.

Asked by reporters Friday evening whether he would bring in someone new to lead the FDA, Trump replied, “No, no,” according to Reuters.

The Washington Post reported that White House officials were preparing to replace Makary after months of turmoil at the Food and Drug Administration. The White House has not formally announced Makary’s removal.
