The Department of War has released an initial set of declassified files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena under a federal system created to identify, review and publish UAP-related records, the department said.
The files are part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, known as PURSUE, the department said adding that the records will be housed at WAR.GOV/UFO, with more files to be released on a rolling basis.
The release includes declassified UAP videos, photos, and original source documents across the federal government, the department said.
Officials said that the materials have been reviewed for security purposes, though many have not yet been analyzed to determine whether the reported anomalies can be resolved.
The department said the effort follows President Donald J. Trump’s direction to begin identifying and declassifying government files related to UAP.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the department is working with Trump to provide more transparency about the government’s understanding of UAP.
“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said in the release.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is coordinating with the Department of War on the review of intelligence community records.
“Today’s release is the first in what will be an ongoing joint declassification and release effort,” Gabbard said.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau is supporting the rolling release while keeping national security as a priority.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said NASA would continue to follow the data and share what it learns.
The release said the interagency effort includes the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Energy, the Department of War’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, NASA, the FBI and other components of U.S. intelligence agencies.
