FIA Says April Meetings Will Review 2026 Rules After Bearman Crash Clarification

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) said meetings are scheduled in April to review Formula One’s 2026 regulations after it issued a clarification following Oliver Bearman’s accident at the Japanese Grand Prix, where high closing speeds were cited as a contributing factor.

In a statement posted by FIA, the governing body said the 2026 rules have been under discussion since their introduction. Those talks have involved the FIA, teams, power unit manufacturers, drivers and Formula One Management.

The regulations were built with several adjustable elements, especially in energy management, so they can be fine-tuned using real-world data, the FIA said in the statement. All stakeholders had agreed from the outset that a structured review would take place after the opening phase of the season, once enough information had been collected and studied, the FIA said in the statement.

The FIA said, the meetings set for April will look at how the new regulations are working and decide whether any refinements are needed. The FIA said any possible changes, particularly those linked to energy management, would need careful simulation and detailed analysis before any decision is made.

The governing body did not announce any immediate changes to the rules. It said speculation about what any future adjustments might involve would be premature at this stage.

The FIA will continue to work closely with stakeholders and stressed that safety remains central to its mission, it said adding it will be issued in due course.
