Israel Says 50 Jets Hit Khamenei’s Underground Tehran Bunker

The Israeli military says the target was a wartime bunker under Tehran’s leadership compound, though the claims remain based on IDF statements.

The Israeli military said on Friday that their air force struck an underground bunker beneath Tehran’s leadership compound, which they claimed was used as a wartime command center for Iran’s previous Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to the a post on X by the IDF, which included a video, 50 fighter jets struck the target, which was hit by 100 munitions.

According to the IDF, the bunker stretched beneath several streets and included multiple entrances and meeting rooms used by senior Iranian officials. The military said Khamenei had been killed before he could use the facility, but claimed the compound remained in use by top regime figures after his death. Those details have come from the Israeli military and have not been independently verified in public reporting reviewed Friday.

The IDF also said the target was mapped over several years by its intelligence branches, including Unit 8200 and Unit 9900, allowing what it called a precise strike on the underground site.

This is the latest reported strike on Tehran’s leadership compound since the beginning of the current war between Israel and Iran. According to previous announcements by the IDF, multiple strikes on this compound have killed Khamenei at his compound, as well as other command centers and government buildings, including those belonging to Iran’s presidential bureau and Supreme National Security Council. Khamenei was killed by their opening round of attacks last week.

The strike on the bunker is taking place as the war between Israel and Iran is now in its seventh day, with attacks by Israel into Tehran and missile and drone attacks by Iran into Israel.
