President Donald Trump on Saturday declared that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is dead, making the claim in a post on his Truth Social platform.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” Trump wrote. “This is not only justice for the people of Iran but also for all great Americans and those people from many countries throughout the world that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.”
Trump said Khamenei was unable to evade U.S. intelligence and tracking systems, adding that the operation was carried out “working closely with Israel.” He claimed that other Iranian leaders had also been killed and said there was “not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do.”
The former president described the moment as “the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their country,” asserting that elements within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), military, and police forces were seeking immunity from the United States.
“As I said last night, ‘Now they can have immunity; later they only get death!’” Trump wrote, calling for what he described as a peaceful merger between Iranian security forces and “Iranian Patriots.”
Trump also indicated that military operations would continue. “The heavy and pinpoint bombing, however, will continue, uninterrupted, throughout the week or as long as necessary to achieve our objective of PEACE THROUGHOUT THE MIDDLE EAST AND, INDEED, THE WORLD!” he stated.
The White House and Pentagon have not issued formal statements addressing Trump’s claim.
Iran has not publicly confirmed Khamenei’s death.
On Saturday, a coordinated strike was carried out in Iran by both Israel and the United States. The strike targeted Iran’s military and strategic sites.
Iran’s Supreme Leader has been in charge of Iran’s armed forces and other areas of the country since 1989. He had been Iran’s president in the 1980s.
