FBI Releases New Doorbell Footage Showing Masked ‘Armed Individual’ in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance

Newly recovered surveillance images show a masked person near the missing 84-year-old’s home as the case remains under investigation.

Federal investigators have released new surveillance images and video that were recently recovered, showing a person wearing a mask near the Tucson-area home of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as the search for her continues into a second week.

In a post to the social media platform X, FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and “private sector partners” were able to retrieve footage that had been “lost, corrupted, or inaccessible,” describing it as recovered from “residual data” in backend systems. Patel said the images show an “armed individual” who appeared to tamper with the doorbell camera at Guthrie’s front door.

The newly released footage shows a person wearing a mask, gloves, and a backpack, which contains what appears to be a handgun holster, approaching the front door of the home and attempting to obstruct the view of the doorbell camera by placing foliage in front of it.

Savannah Guthrie posted a video to her Instagram account, saying, “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said the president reviewed the footage that was released and encouraged people to come forward with information to the authorities. “The president reviewed the footage that was released and encouraged people to come forward with information to the authorities. He said it is ‘pure disgust’ and that they’re ‘praying for Guthrie’s safe return,’” according to a video posted by the White House.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen late Saturday, January 31. She had been with family the evening before and was reported missing the following day after she failed to appear for church. There is no suspect in the case as of yet. According to a timeline released by the authorities, the doorbell camera lost a signal from the house at 1:47 a.m. the following morning. Software detected a person shortly after that time, and the pacemaker app lost a signal from the woman’s phone at 2:28 a.m., according to KOAT.

The case is being treated as a criminal investigation. The FBI and local officials continue to ask the public for tips, as the Guthrie family’s appeals grow more urgent.
