Bill Ackman Donates $10,000 to Fundraiser for ICE Officer Jonathan Ross

Ackman cites “innocent until proven guilty” as Minnesota officials seek evidence and protests spread nationwide.

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman donated $10,000 to a fundraising page for ICE officer Jonathan Ross, writing on X that he believes in the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” and calling the case “a tragedy”.

Ackman said he gave to a GoFundMe for ICE officer Jonathan Ross and had planned to donate to a separate GoFundMe for Renée Nicole Good’s family, but said that page was closed by the time he tried to contribute. The fundraiser for Good’s widowed wife and children was later closed by the organizer after it received more than $1.5 million in donations.

Good, 37, was fatally shot on Wednesday, Jan. 7, during a confrontation in south Minneapolis that unfolded amid a federal immigration operation and community protests. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said an ICE officer fired in self-defense after being hit by the vehicle and described the incident as “domestic terrorism”.

President Donald Trump separately alleged the driver “viciously ran over” an ICE officer, though several bystander videos do not support that claim.

A cellphone video published by Alpha News shows the moments leading up to the shooting and appears to be filmed from Ross’ perspective. The video shows Ross walking up to Good’s SUV while sirens are going off. Good is in the driver’s seat and her wife, Rebecca Good, is outside the car. The video then appears to show Ross firing as the SUV moves away.

Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Friday the investigation “is being led solely by the FBI,” leaving the state without access to key materials, in a statement posted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty’s office later announced an evidence-submission portal with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office to collect and preserve information tied to the shooting, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

Over the weekend, protests erupted in Minneapolis and other cities, with organizers calling for a transparent investigation, release of evidence, and accountability if wrongdoing occurred. Organizers also sought the removal of ICE, and said more than 1,000 events were planned nationwide as part of the “ICE Out For Good” weekend of action, according to the ACLU.
