At least 162 people were hospitalized in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City following a mass outbreak of food poisoning linked to two Vietnamese sandwich shops operating under the same brand, Xinhua reported.
Patients reported nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and fatigue. One person was in critical condition and receiving intensive care, while a pregnant woman was at risk of going into premature labor, it said. One blood sample from a patient tested positive for Salmonella.
Authorities have temporarily suspended business at the two shops while investigators work to determine the cause of the outbreak. Health officials said that 105 patients have been discharged, with 57 others still under observation and inpatient treatment, Xinhua reported.
According to reports, additional testing is being conducted to trace the pathway of contamination and to determine if other cases can be linked to the same brand.
