Nepal Qualify for 2026 T20 World Cup

UAE’s 77-run win over Samoa clinches Nepal’s spot; Oman join them as the final EAP place nears a decision.

Great news for cricket fans in Nepal! Nepal’s national cricket team has secured its spot in the ICC T20 World Cup, and they didn’t even need to take the field to make it happen.

On Wednesday, Nepal’s World Cup qualification was confirmed when the UAE handed Samoa a convincing 77-run defeat during the Super Six stage of the Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifiers taking place in Oman.

This will be Nepal’s third trip to cricket’s biggest T20 stage, following their appearances in 2014 and 2024. What makes this even more special is that Nepal will be competing in back-to-back World Cups – a testament to the team’s growing consistency on the international stage. They’ll head to India and Sri Lanka in 2026 for the tournament.

Nepal won’t be making the journey alone, though. The host nation Oman has also booked their place in the World Cup. Both teams can breathe easy now, having qualified with two matches still left to play in the qualifier tournament.

In Wednesday’s crucial match, Samoa came up short while chasing the UAE’s imposing total of 226 runs, managing only 148 for 8 in their 20 overs. The result means either the UAE or Japan will grab the final available World Cup slot.

Nepal’s campaign continues today with a match against Oman, before wrapping up their Super Six fixtures against Samoa on Friday.

Looking at the standings, Oman and Nepal are sitting pretty at the top of the Super Six table, each with 6 points. The UAE trails behind with 4 points and will face Japan in their final group match, with a World Cup berth on the line.
