Trump slams Xi, Putin and Kim over Beijing summit: ‘As you conspire against us’

Trump warns Xi, Putin, and Kim are aligning against the U.S. after Beijing appearance, citing WWII ties.

President Donald Trump sharply criticized Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday, accusing them of aligning against the United States after an appearance together in Beijing. In a post on Truth Social, Trump invoked U.S. wartime support for China and issued a pointed message to the three leaders, writing, “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.” He added that the United States provided “support and ‘blood’” to help China “secure its FREEDOM” from a foreign invader, a clear reference to World War II-era cooperation against Imperial Japan.

“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader,” Trump wrote. “Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!” He concluded, “May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.” The capitalization appears as posted.

Trump’s statements came as Xi, Putin, and Kim were all in Beijing at the same time. As tensions escalate between the US and its allies, this focused attention to the growing links between China, Russia, and North Korea. On Wednesday, the three countries didn’t say right away what would happen in the meeting in Beijing or what would happen there.

The essay talks about things Trump has said before, like how the U.S. and China fought together in World War II and how many Americans perished in the China theater. It also brings up fears that have been there for a long time in the U.S. about Moscow and Pyongyang working together more, like on military concerns and getting over sanctions. China still maintains substantial trade ties with the U.S. and Europe, but these anxieties are much stronger now that China is getting closer to Russia.

The leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea not responded yet.

The trip to Beijing will likely make the talks in Washington about how to deal with security, technological, and sanctions challenges emanating from China, Russia, and North Korea much more heated. It also happens before big multilateral meetings this month, where U.S. officials are scheduled to talk to partners about arms transfers, export controls, and support for Ukraine.
