Trump Says Preventing Iran From Acquiring a Nuclear Weapon Is Top Goal

The president’s latest statement follows his remarks about the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump said Monday that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains his top goal.

“The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. He announced no new policy or military action.

The post followed Trump’s Friday remarks in Garden City, New York, where he discussed Iran, nuclear weapons and the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a Roll Call transcript, Trump said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz “a territory of the United States” once the United States had defeated Iran. During the same event, he said the United States could not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

Tehran rejected the territorial statement. Euronews reported that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the strait “has been Iranian, is Iranian, and will remain Iranian.”

Trump’s post did not mention the Strait of Hormuz or set a timetable for further action.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
