Trump Says Iran Faked Hormuz Attacks to Push Oil Prices Up

Trump posted that more oil is moving through the strait than before the conflict — and accused Tehran of inventing attacks because of it

The Strait of Hormuz is moving more oil than it did before the conflict started. That, at least, is what President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Thursday. Iran, he added, is inventing attacks in the strait — fake hits and mines — to drive the price of oil up before the U.S. midterm elections.

“Iran is doing everything they can to drive up the price of Oil prior to the U.S. Midterm Election,” Trump posted. “They are even making up fake hits, mines, and everything else, because more Oil is coming through the Hormuz Strait now than it did even prior to the beginning of the Conflict.”

A second post, minutes later, quoted a Wall Street Journal headline: “More Oil Is Now Coming Out of the Persian Gulf Than Before the Iran War.”

Trump called Iran “truly an Evil Regime” in the post and said it is shocking that the world and the “Dumocrat Party” seem not to care. His main charge against Tehran, though, was about protesters: “They continue to kill protestors, and anyone else that happens to be in their way.” He put the dead at 75,000 in less than seven months.

None of it came with evidence in the post. The 75,000 figure has not been independently verified.

The post ended on Iran’s nuclear program. Trump wrote that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon.
