President Donald Trump’s peace team said technical-level talks among the United States, Russia and Ukraine would follow meetings with Russian, Ukrainian and European leaders in Oslo and St. Petersburg.
In a statement posted on X, special envoy Steve Witkoff described discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin about a proposed peace framework.
The meeting in St. Petersburg sought to carry forward work from talks in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the statement. It did not outline the framework’s terms.
The account also reported that the two thanked Putin for releasing American citizen Stephen Hubbard so he could return to his family. Hubbard’s release was not independently verified for this report.
The statement characterized the discussions as constructive and said negotiations would continue at the technical level. It provided no date or location for those talks.
In his own statement on X, Kushner described progress over the preceding several days and thanked Trump and the Ukrainian, European and Russian participants.
“Encouraging progress over the past several days,” Kushner wrote.
He said difficult work remained but expressed optimism about reaching an agreement that could end the war and provide lasting security and prosperity.
Neither supplied statement announced a completed peace agreement or detailed the issues the technical teams would address.
