Teen Arrested in Perry Street Shooting That Injured 12

Police say the dispute was between people who knew each other, and none of the 12 victims appears to have been an intended target.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The first arrest in Saturday night’s Perry Street shooting came on Sunday. Tallahassee police said Monday that a 15-year-old, Anthony Rivers III, is facing 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder.

This story follows our earlier coverage of the shooting and the victims’ conditions.

The second charge against Rivers is possession of a firearm by a delinquent. Police said the charges followed consultation with State Attorney Jack Campbell.

Eleven people were shot. The 12th person hurt had an ankle injury, suffered while fleeing the gunfire.

Early findings still point to a fight before the shots. This time police added a detail: the dispute was between people who knew one another, and none of the victims appears to have been an intended target.

“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” said Chief of Police Lawrence Revell.

“While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy.”

Officers who reached the scene first treated victims before it was fully secured, police said. Since then, detectives, crime analysts, victim advocates and other department staff have worked the case around the clock.

Police credited the public, too. Tips and digital evidence sent in by residents have been vital to the investigation, the department said. It thanked the community for the volume of information that has come in since Saturday night.

More arrests could follow. Police called the investigation open and active, with detectives still running down leads and going through evidence.

There is a dedicated number for this case now: 850-891-4610. Anyone with photos or video can send the files through the department’s online evidence portal, police said.
