Maryland Early Voting Ends Thursday; Virginia’s Ends Saturday

Ballot return deadlines and local voting hours differ across the two states.

Maryland voters have until 8 p.m. Thursday to vote early in person for the Nov. 3 election. In Virginia, the last day is Saturday.

The Maryland State Board of Elections says anyone in line when early-voting centers close Thursday, Oct. 29, will be allowed to cast a ballot. Centers open at 7 a.m., and voters can find their locations on the board’s website.

Another Maryland deadline follows Friday: Oct. 30 is the last day to request an emailed mail-in ballot online. Voters receiving a ballot this way must print it, fill it out and return it. Requests for ballots delivered by mail or fax were due Tuesday.

Completed ballots sent by mail must be postmarked by Nov. 3. Those returned by hand must reach an approved drop box or local election board by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Across the Potomac, Virginia’s early-voting period runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. The Virginia Department of Elections directs voters to check with their local registrar for locations and hours. Early ballots must be cast in the city or county where the voter is registered.

Fairfax County’s Government Center offers voting Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 251, at 12000 Government Center Parkway. It will open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

Construction and events may limit parking there. Other county voting sites follow different schedules, so residents should check the location list before leaving. The elections office also posts wait times online.
