Bahrain, Kuwait Report Intercepting Iranian Missiles, Drones

Two Gulf states report intercepting missiles and drones within hours as both governments blame Tehran

Bahrain’s military said it intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missile and drone attacks that targeted civilians in the kingdom, according to the Bahrain Defense Force.

The force said its air defense systems confronted and brought down a number of what it called treacherous Iranian aerial attacks. All its units remain at the highest level of readiness, it said.

The military asked residents to not approach or touch suspicious objects left behind by the strikes and to report them immediately. The debris is being handled by a royal engineering unit, the statement said.

The strikes “deliberately targeted civilians and private property” and were a “flagrant violation” of international humanitarian law. — Bahrain Defense Force

Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense reported its own interception. Its forces brought down two hostile ballistic missiles over Kuwaiti airspace at dawn Sunday, and no one was hurt, the ministry said. It did not say who fired them.

Major General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, the ministry’s spokesperson, said the missiles were dealt with under approved operational procedures.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it called renewed Iranian drone attacks on Bahrain for a second consecutive day, describing them as a dangerous escalation.

This is a developing story. Virginia Times will update as information becomes available.
