Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the reward for a season in which the goals never really stopped. The Bayern Munich striker scored 61 times in 51 games for his club. He added 12 more for England.
The numbers behind the award, set out by Ballon d’Or, are stark. Kane scored 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances, 10 in six DFB Cup games, 14 in 13 Champions League matches and one in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup. He finished with seven assists, a goal every 66 minutes, and a goal or an assist every 59.
His 36 league goals brought a second European Golden Shoe. At club level, the haul also delivered a domestic treble for Bayern.
It started early. Kane’s first goal of the season came in the Supercup, and his next three arrived on the opening day of the Bundesliga, a hat-trick at home to RB Leipzig. All three came from the left channel.
The record that may have settled the argument fell in late September. Kane had already scored a penalty against Werder Bremen when, in the 65th minute, Luis Diaz set him up and a simple redirect brought his 100th goal for Bayern. At 32, he reached the century faster than any player in the club’s 126 years.
Goals kept arriving in clusters. Against Stuttgart, Kane dropped deep, picked up the ball on the halfway line and ran at a retreating defence before scoring from 25 yards, the first goal of another hat-trick. He had already scored trebles against Leipzig and Hoffenheim.
His best single finish may have come at the Allianz Arena in January. Closed down by a full-back to the left of goal against Wolfsburg, Kane curled a shot that touched the bar and the post on its way in. It was one of 10 match-winning goals he scored across the season.
Penalties did much of the steady work. A spot kick against Borussia Dortmund in late February took him to 30 league goals. He converted 10 penalties in the Bundesliga, four in the Champions League and three in the cup. His only miss came at Wolfsburg in the penultimate league game, after the goalkeeper had scuffed up the spot unnoticed.
Europe brought no drop-off. Kane’s 14 Champions League goals tied Kylian Mbappe as the competition’s top scorer, and in early April he scored the winner at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, a low drive from just outside the box in a quarter-final that produced 10 goals over the two legs.
He finished the season as he started it. A hat-trick against FC Koln, a volley, a free-kick and a long-range strike, secured his third Torjägerkanone as the Bundesliga’s top scorer. Seven days later he scored another hat-trick, this one in the DFB Cup final against Stuttgart. It was his fifth hat-trick of the season, one every 10 matches.
