Helicopter Crash Near Airlake Airport Kills All Aboard- Police

Police say a helicopter went down west of Airlake Airport; federal investigators are responding.

A helicopter crashed in a field west of Airlake Airport on Saturday afternoon, killing everyone on board, Lakeville police said. Around 2:45 p.m., officers were contacted and found the wreckage west of Highview Avenue, close to 219th Street West.

Lakeville police and fire officials stated it looked like no one had lived. The site is in an area that is not residential or commercial, and there were no reports of injuries to persons on the ground.

Authorities announced that the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board had been told and will be in charge of the investigation. Federal investigators will give more information on the plane, the number of people on board, and the cause when they have looked into it.

The names of the dead will be made public by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the next several days.

A statement circulated on social media and reported by local news says that the NTSB is looking into a crash of a Robinson R66 helicopter in Minneapolis.

This story is still developing. We’ll add more information as officials make it available.
