Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a 90-minute conversation with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, he said in a post on X, as the sides prepare trilateral team talks within a week.
The conversation was very detailed, according to the post. The trilateral talks are being prepared at the team level between Ukraine, the United States and Russia, to take place in less than a week, Zelenskyy wrote.
A substantive meeting in Brussels today brought together Ukraine’s team and teams from America, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, NATO and the World Bank, along with representatives of the global business community, Zelenskyy said. The meeting focused on postwar recovery.
Another meeting will be held in Brussels tomorrow on security guarantees for Ukraine, he wrote.
The negotiations must move forward at full throttle to bring the war to an end as quickly as possible, according to the post. Ukraine is ready to take the necessary steps, Zelenskyy wrote, and its proposals are clear and have been given to the American side.
Air defense is an important priority and was discussed as well, Zelenskyy wrote. Ukraine needs interceptors for Patriot systems to protect lives from Russian attacks, he said.
Work must also continue on each of the bilateral tracks with America, Zelenskyy wrote, pointing to the Drone Deal format in particular.
Zelenskyy thanked the United States for its support for Ukraine’s independence, its people and its diplomatic efforts.
“Peace has no alternative, and postwar security guarantees must be truly cast-iron.”
“We are working to make this happen!” Zelenskyy wrote.
