WHO Verifies New Attacks on Health Care in Ukraine

Two Kharkiv facilities were damaged, a Dnipro hospital was hit, four health workers are missing in Komyshuvakha, and the verified total since February 2022 tops 3,400.

Attacks on health care in Ukraine continue, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X, reporting attacks verified by the World Health Organization in Kharkiv, Dnipro and Komyshuvakha.

The latest verified attacks took place in Kharkiv and Dnipro on Nov. 3, and in Komyshuvakha on Nov. 2, according to the post.

In Kharkiv, two health facilities were damaged, affecting their neurology, cardiology, trauma, surgical and hospice departments and forcing the evacuation of patients. A health worker was also injured.

In Dnipro, a hospital’s hospice and surgical departments sustained damage to windows and the roof. Patients were evacuated.

In Komyshuvakha, a shelter was struck while four health workers were providing care to people inside. The health workers remain missing, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

The World Health Organization stands with all health workers who continue caring for patients, including in shelters, Tedros said.

Since February 2022, the organization has verified over 3,400 attacks on health care in Ukraine. “Hospitals, patients and health workers must never be targets of war,” he said.

“The best medicine is peace.”
