President Donald Trump said Friday in a Truth Social post that he was immediately banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House over their coverage.
Trump said the ban took effect immediately. His post did not explain how the restriction would be enforced. The supplied Friday statements give no account of a reporter being turned away.
“Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”
In the post, Trump accused the three outlets of repeatedly publishing false reports. He separately alleged that Politico received an illegal $8 million federal subscription during Joe Biden’s presidency. The supplied material offers no independent support for either allegation.
CNN said it stood behind its White House team and its reporting. The network described the ban as a threat and said carrying it out would violate its constitutional right to report without government interference.
Politico said it “will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them.”
