Officials lift protective measures; an employee’s minor injuries were reported separately.

AIKEN, S.C. — Savannah River Site officials ended a site area emergency at 9:45 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday after a fire at the Savannah River National Laboratory was extinguished.

Protective measures were lifted and entrance barricades reopened, according to the site’s emergency response organization. Radiological surveys found no detectable contamination, officials said.

The latest release places the emergency declaration at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday. Highway 125 remained open.

Officials directed incoming shift workers to report as usual and told other employees to follow their scheduled Thursday reporting times.

Separately, Reuters reported that a Department of Energy spokesperson said an employee suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.
