Democrats Lead by 10 Points in Final Emerson Midterm Poll

Trump’s approval stands at 37%, with Democrats reporting greater enthusiasm for voting.

Democrats head into the last days of the midterm campaign up 10 points on the generic congressional ballot, 52% to 42%, according to the final national poll from Emerson College Polling.

President Donald Trump’s numbers are underwater. Thirty-seven percent of likely voters approve of him, and 57% don’t.

The Republican number hasn’t budged from where it stood 15 months ago, when Emerson started tracking the race, said Spencer Kimball, the poll’s executive director. Democrats climbed from 44% to 52% in that span, and Trump’s approval fell from 46% to 37%.

About 5% of voters remain undecided, most of them independents. “Democrats’ congressional ceiling could be higher than the poll reports,” Kimball said.

Democrats are more excited to vote, too. Seventy-six percent of them say they are “very excited,” compared with 64% of Republicans and 62% of independents.

When voters were asked what matters most to their vote, 34% named the cost of living. Corruption in government came second at 28%, and taxes trailed at 10%.

The survey also found 28% of voters use AI chatbots daily, and 38% view artificial intelligence as good for society. Voters oppose a data center in or near their community 59% to 29%, while a local nuclear plant drew 49% opposition and 42% support.

Emerson surveyed 1,000 likely voters Oct. 24-26. The results have a credibility interval of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
