WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump restored canceled campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa on Friday, a White House official said, putting back-to-back Sunday stops back on his schedule days before the midterm elections.
The rallies had been rearranged to accommodate the tele-rallies recently added to Trump’s schedule, the official said, according to Reuters.
“Rallies are BACK ON! President Trump loves his supporters, and in addition to nearly 20 tele-rallies, he will hold back-to-back rallies in Kansas and Iowa on Sunday.”
The restored stops are the Salina, Kansas, and Dubuque, Iowa, events Trump scrapped a day earlier. The Kansas rally moves from Saturday to Sunday to make room for the tele-rallies.
Trump canceled the two in-person stops on Thursday, saying he did not need to travel to Kansas because Sen. Roger Marshall was faring well in his reelection race. “You know what the reason is? I don’t feel like I have to go to Kansas. I’m going to Florida tomorrow,” he told reporters, adding of Marshall: “He is doing very well. We are going to have a strong Tuesday night.”
The tele-rallies remain part of the closing schedule. MAGA Inc., a campaign funding group aligned with Trump, said it would host tele-rallies with the president in at least 19 states, including Kansas and Iowa, before Election Day, Reuters reported.
On Friday, Trump campaigns in Florida, a state he won handily in 2024 but where early voting has tilted toward Democrats, Reuters reported. The stop follows campaign events earlier in the week in Mississippi and South Carolina, two states Republicans usually expect to win.
Kansas has become an unexpectedly tight race. A CNN poll put Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton ahead of Marshall, 49% to 45%, and found 57% of Kansas voters disapproved of Trump’s job performance. Trump won Kansas by 16 percentage points in the 2024 election.
The reversal caps a month of heavy travel for Trump, who has hosted 25 rallies in 19 states since Oct. 1, often speaking for nearly two hours at a time, according to Reuters.
