RABAT, Morocco — The United States defeated Samoa 17-0 on Monday at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the largest margin of victory in FIFA World Cup history, according to FIFA.
Maddie DiMaria scored six goals, becoming the first player to reach that mark in a single U-17 Women’s World Cup match. Mia Corona, Loradana Paletta, Grace Murray, Amari Manning, Deus Stanislaus, Carolina Reyna, Isa Ortiz, Meila Brewer and Gianna Hanf also scored. Paletta and Reyna each finished with two goals.
The United States led 9-0 at halftime before adding eight goals after the break.
“We wanted to have a good performance and we felt like we got that and continued to be able to put the ball in the back of the net,” U.S. coach Ciara Crinion said.
