Seven Hospitalized After Air India Phuket-Delhi Flight Hits Turbulence

Seven passengers from an Air India flight that hit turbulence on its way from Phuket to Delhi have been admitted to Fortis Hospital for medical evaluation, the hospital told ANI Tuesday.

The passengers arrived at the emergency department after Fortis received an alert from Air India about the turbulence on flight AI2379, which landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the hospital said.

Staff assessed and treated the patients on arrival, then activated a Code Yellow to coordinate the response, according to Fortis. The passengers underwent CT scans, MRIs and X-rays before being moved to inpatient rooms for observation.

Fortis hospital said its teams were still evaluating each patient, with a clearer picture of the injuries to follow. A dedicated Air India team was on site to help with care and communicate with families.

Air India said that there was a “brief in-flight turbulence-related event” and a momentary change in altitude. There are no major injuries but passengers and crew with minor injuries have been taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, the airline said.

One Air India passenger told ANI that the turbulence was sudden and several people had sustained injuries, including injuries to head and back. Air India said it was cooperating with the investigation by the authorities into the matter.
