A Thai-flagged commercial vessel was attacked about 13 nautical miles off the coast of Oman on Wednesday, sparking a fire in its main engine room, according to the Oman News Agency.
The vessel, identified as MAYUREE NAREE, was sailing near the Omani shore when the attack occurred, according to the report. This has been confirmed by the Maritime Security Center.
A vessel of the Royal Navy of Oman rescued all 20 crew members of the vessel following the attack, according to Oman News Agency. All the crew members of the vessel are Thai nations.
The report said the crew members suffered injuries of varying severity. It did not specify the cause of the attack, the nature of the injuries, or whether any other crew remained aboard the vessel.
The incident took place off the coastline of the Sultanate of Oman, a key maritime area near major regional shipping routes.
There has been no further information regarding the circumstances of the incident, and the authorities have not identified the perpetrators of the crime as of Wednesday.
