Trump Nominates Jay Clayton as Director of National Intelligence

Trump taps the Manhattan U.S. attorney and former SEC chief for the top intelligence post

President Donald Trump on Thursday nominated Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, to serve as the next director of national intelligence.

Trump announced the nomination in a post on Truth Social, saying Clayton would also serve in his Cabinet. He urged the Senate to confirm Clayton “as soon as possible.”

“Few people anywhere in the Legal Community are respected at the level of Jay,” Trump wrote.

Clayton previously ran the Securities and Exchange Commission and led the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, Trump said in the post.
