Ukrainian officials said Russian strikes killed two people in the Kyiv region and injured at least 28 in Kharkiv during attacks that continued into Monday morning.
The Kharkiv strike hit a nine-story apartment building, injuring nine children among the 28 people, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the building’s second and fourth floors were partially destroyed. He said one of the two people killed in the Kyiv region was an Azerbaijani citizen.
The ministry said Russian drone attacks damaged homes and communications infrastructure in Kyiv, where four people were injured. It also reported damage to residential buildings in the Sumy, Rivne, Kharkiv and Odesa regions. A Palau-flagged vessel was struck in the Odesa region, the ministry said.
In a later post, Zelenskyy said a Russian strike hit a National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building. Crews were fighting a fire and searching for people who might be trapped inside, he said. The post gave no casualty figure for that site.
Zelenskyy also reported strikes on a pharmaceutical company and gas stations in Kyiv, a business center in Dnipro, and civilian facilities and infrastructure elsewhere. He said people had been killed, without giving a figure for those attacks.
The attacks followed repeated drone strikes on Kyiv on Sunday. The Foreign Ministry said one air raid alert lasted more than nine hours. It reported damage to two kindergartens, two schools and a building used as the Saudi ambassador’s residence.
Russia’s Defense Ministry gave a different account of its targets. In a statement reported by TASS, the ministry said its overnight drone strikes targeted communications and logistics centers, fuel and port facilities, and vessels it described as serving Ukraine’s armed forces. Those descriptions and the reported damage could not be independently verified from the supplied material.
Zelenskyy said in a separate post that Ukrainian forces had struck Russian defense plants, oil facilities and other targets in Russia over the past day. His account of those operations also could not be independently verified from the supplied material.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called for stronger air defenses and continued international pressure on Russia. Zelenskyy urged partners to provide air defenses, energy support and help covering Ukraine’s budget gaps.
