Trump to Announce Audi Plant in Georgia, Official Tells Reuters

Official told Reuters the Georgia plant would build the Q7, Q8 and Q9, with 25,000 more vehicles planned in South Carolina

MACON, Ga. — President Donald Trump is expected to announce on Saturday that Audi will build a new assembly plant in Georgia, a government official told Reuters.

The plant would make 200,000 SUVs a year. It is expected to assemble the Q7, Q8 and Q9, Reuters reported.

Bloomberg reported the plant will be in Macon, and that construction on the greenfield project is due to begin soon.

Audi is also expected to announce plans to build 25,000 vehicles in South Carolina, the official told Reuters. Bloomberg reported Volkswagen will expand a facility in South Carolina as well.

Trump has pressed automakers to build more vehicles in the United States. He has also imposed significant tariffs on foreign-made cars and trucks, Reuters reported.

Volkswagen is Audi’s German parent. Bloomberg reported the company hopes the announcement will yield potential relief from tariffs that have severely eroded profits.

Audi declined to comment, Reuters reported.
