Apple Unveils 14-Inch MacBook Pro With M6 Chip and 24-Hour Battery Life

Pre-orders open Oct. 28 and sales start Nov. 6, with a 12-core GPU, Wi-Fi 7 and up to 24 hours of battery life

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple took the wraps off a new 14-inch MacBook Pro on Tuesday, built around its M6 chip and pitched to college students, business users and creators alike. Pre-orders open Wednesday, Oct. 28, and the laptop goes on sale Friday, Nov. 6, in space black and silver.

The M6 chip pairs a 12-core CPU — Apple calls its CPU core the world’s fastest — with a 12-core GPU. Graphics run up to 30 percent faster than on the M5 model, and AI workloads up to 25 percent faster, according to Apple. Owners upgrading from an M1 machine would see a far bigger jump: up to 11 times faster graphics and up to 13 times faster AI performance.

On-device AI sits at the center of this update. Extra Neural Accelerators in the GPU work alongside a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, hardware Apple says turns the MacBook Pro into a stronger platform for AI, from Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features across apps and macOS 27 to running large language models locally, all while preserving user privacy.

“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI. With its amazing battery life, remarkable Liquid Retina XDR display, and even faster connectivity, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 delivers a fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value.”

The new model also moves to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Storage is faster, too — Apple says that speeds up work with large files, project exports and heavy AI jobs. Battery life is up to 24 hours. Performance does not change whether the machine is plugged in or running on battery, according to Apple.

Much else is familiar. There is a Liquid Retina XDR display, with nano-texture as an option, a 12MP Center Stage camera and a six-speaker sound system, along with a wide array of ports. Apple, pairing the hardware with macOS 27, calls it a major upgrade for existing Mac users — and for people buying a Mac for the first time.
