MILAN — All four goals in Saturday night’s derby came before halftime, and three of them were AC Milan’s. Diego Moreira had a hand in every one as Milan beat Inter Milan 3-1 at San Siro.
It took Milan four minutes. Moreira crossed from the flank, and Christian Pulisic headed it into the bottom corner. In the 10th minute, Moreira’s corner found Adrien Rabiot, whose left-footed ball — it looked more like a cross — went in off the post.
Inter answered in the 22nd. Akanji flicked on a Çalhanoğlu corner, and Bastoni headed in from close range. Moreira’s own goal came just before the break, a left-footed free kick that curled over the wall and beat goalkeeper Martínez in the 43rd minute.
That was as close as Inter got, mostly because of Mike Maignan. His best stop was a reflex save on Spence’s close-range shot in the 33rd minute. He also turned away Çalhanoğlu, Diouf, Sučić and Thuram.
The second half didn’t offer much. Carlos Augusto, left unmarked, couldn’t get a touch on Çalhanoğlu’s pass in the 55th minute. In the first minute of stoppage time, Milan substitute Cisse drew a diving save from Martínez.
It’s Milan’s fourth straight win over Inter, Coppa Italia included, and its eighth meeting in a row without a loss to them, according to AC Milan. The result came after a recent home defeat to Bologna.
Milan has 21 points and sits fourth in Serie A for now. The leaders are four points clear, though not every Matchday 10 game has been played. Next up is Ferencváros in the Europa League, at San Siro on Thursday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is 6:45 p.m. CET.
