MOSCOW — Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 613 drones flew toward the Moscow region overnight, with Russian air defenses destroying 231 as they approached the capital.
The drones were reported between 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday, Moscow time, Sobyanin wrote on his official MAX account. He said most were intercepted farther from the city.
Sobyanin did not identify who launched the drones. His figures could not be independently verified.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily restricted arrivals and departures at Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports during the night. The agency said the measures were taken for flight safety.
Those restrictions had been lifted by 6:46 a.m. Moscow time, according to the agency’s official channel. Neither official post provided a damage or casualty assessment.
