The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen said Monday it had carried out what it called a “qualitative” military operation against Houthi forces, destroying missile storage tunnels and launchers in areas the group controls.
The strikes hit five tunnels used to store ballistic missiles, four ballistic missile launchers and a missile storage site, according to a statement from coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki.
The operation also aimed to cut Houthi supply lines running between areas under the group’s control. Al-Malki said coalition forces struck Houthi fortifications, fighters and military equipment along front lines inside Yemen.
The coalition’s account could not be independently verified, and its statement gave no date for the strikes. Nor did it report casualties or pinpoint the targets beyond placing them in Houthi-held areas.
Al-Malki cited what he called the coalition’s “inherent and legitimate right to self-defense.” The Houthis, labeled a terrorist militia in the statement, had tried again and again to strike civilians and civilian targets using ballistic missiles and drones, he said.
According to the statement, those attempts were aimed at both Yemen and “the Kingdom,” though it gave no dates or locations.
Al-Malki said the operation followed customary international humanitarian law.
The coalition’s Joint Forces Command plans to continue what he described as deterrent measures against the Houthis. He said those steps are meant to protect civilians in the kingdom and in Yemen, where he accused the group of killing and abusing Yemenis.
