Denmark has summoned the Russian ambassador after its armed forces reported that a Russian frigate fired flares at an air force helicopter during routine photographic work off Gedser, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen announced.
According to Rasmussen, the helicopter was photographing the frigate in waters off Gedser when it was fired upon with what he described as flares. He said the ambassador had been summoned for a conversation.
“This is completely unacceptable. Therefore, Russia’s ambassador has been summoned for a conversation about the incident.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the devices as emergency flares fired dangerously close to the Danish helicopter. She called the Russian warship’s conduct reckless and dangerous.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed Ukraine’s support for Denmark after what he described as Russia’s provocative and unacceptable actions against the helicopter.
Sybiha accused Moscow of attempting to destabilize Europe and called for a joint response. He said Ukraine was ready to contribute to efforts to strengthen Europe’s protection from Russian threats.
