At least seven people were killed and 20 injured in a suicide bombing near a police station close to a peace rally venue in Pakistan’s Swat district on Sunday, the district police chief said.
The blast struck near the police station gate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as a public gathering was ending nearby, Muhammad Umar, district police officer of Swat, told Xinhua.
The casualties included civilians who were at the rally and some police personnel, Umar added.
The attacker tried to enter the police station but was stopped by a policeman at the entrance gate, where he detonated the explosives he was carrying, Umar said.
Medical teams and security officials reached the scene and took the victims to hospitals.
Authorities cordoned off the area and began a search operation as investigators collected evidence from the site.
The investigation is underway, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
