U.S. forces struck dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets inside Iran on July 29 in response to an attempted missile attack the previous day, U.S. Central Command said.
CENTCOM said the strikes, completed at 10 p.m. ET, hit military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities.
The command said the operation aimed to reduce threats from Iran and its proxies to U.S. forces, commercial shipping and neighboring Gulf countries.
CENTCOM tied the strikes to an attempted attack the previous day. On July 28, IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran at U.S. forces in the Middle East in what the command called an attempted surprise attack.
CENTCOM said all the missiles were intercepted.
More than 50,000 U.S. service members are deployed to the Middle East, according to the command.
CENTCOM also reported a separate U.S.-Saudi strike operation in Iraq. The command said aircraft from both countries hit multiple logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq that it linked to Iran-aligned groups.
CENTCOM said the IRGC directed those groups to attack U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure. It called the Iraq operation a response to more than 30 drone attacks over 72 hours.
The command said the attacks against U.S. forces failed. It warned that the IRGC and its proxies must stop the attacks or risk further U.S. military action.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said its forces participated in the Iraq strikes. It described the operation as an act of self-defense under the U.N. Charter following drone attacks on the kingdom’s petroleum facilities.
CENTCOM previously said Iran-aligned militias in Iraq attempted more than 600 attacks against U.S. citizens and facilities from February through April 2026.
