Elon Musk said SpaceX is sending a vessel to recover Starship Ship 40, which the company said remained afloat in the Indian Ocean after Flight 13.
SpaceX said its Starship Recovery team kept documenting the vehicle after the July 24 flight. Sharing landing footage, Musk wrote, “We’re sending a ship out to recover Starship.”
Flight 13 launched from Starbase, Texas, with Ship 40 atop Booster 20. According to the mission account, the flight deployed 20 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites and demonstrated an in-space Raptor engine relight.
The mission account said the upper stage survived reentry with most of its heat shield intact before a soft splashdown near Western Australia. Musk described the touchdown as accurate enough for a tower catch.
The booster encountered trouble during its return after only 10 engines relit, the mission said.
