President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that the U.S. will bomb one bridge or power plant in Iran — including in Tehran — each time Iran fires on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump posted the threat on Truth Social. He set no deadline and named no target.
Any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz … the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran. — President Donald Trump
The warning follows the collapse of a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding signed in June. That deal called for a ceasefire and the reopening of the strait. It fell apart in early July, and both countries have exchanged strikes since.
At least 17 U.S. service members have been killed and hundreds wounded since the U.S. and Israel began attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, ABC News reported, citing the Defense Department and a casualty count Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell provided Monday.
