Two suspects were arrested after a U.S. Park Police officer was injured in a shooting Monday night in Southeast Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 5000 block of Queens Stroll Place, Southeast. The officer was inside an unmarked vehicle while investigating an offense in U.S. Park Police jurisdiction when two armed male suspects approached and fired multiple shots as the vehicle drove away.
The statement added that the officer was able to escape and drove to the 4600 block of Hillside Road, Southeast. The U.S. Park Police aircraft team flew him to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening and then let go.
Police said they stopped 21-year-old Darren Foster from Southeast Washington immediately after the incident on Monday. On Tuesday, police found the second suspect, a 22-year-old woman named Asheile Foster from Southeast Washington.
Police reported that both suspects were arrested and charged with assaulting a federal police officer while armed.
The crime is being investigated by the MPD’s NIBIN Investigations Unit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and detectives from the U.S. Park Police.
