Vatican’s Parolin Urges Trump, Israel to End Conflict Quickly

The Vatican’s top diplomat called for diplomacy and restraint during remarks in Rome on Wednesday.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, said Wednesday that he would urge U.S. President Donald Trump to end the conflict as soon as possible, warning that “the real danger is that an escalation is just around the corner,” Vatican News reported.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a book presentation in Rome, Parolin said he would tell Trump “to put an end to it as soon as possible.” He also said the same message should be directed to Israel.

Parolin said issues should be resolved “through the peaceful paths of diplomacy and dialogue,” according to Vatican News, which reported his remarks from an event at the Chamber of Deputies tied to the presentation of a book on Pope Leo XIV.

He also briefly commented on working with Pope Leo XIV, the first U.S.-born pope. Parolin said the relationship was marked by “good dialogue” and a “fruitful exchange,” adding that the pope “listens a great deal.”

The remarks came as the Vatican highlighted the need for restraint and diplomacy amid rising international tensions.
