Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Sunday that Tehran would intensify its response against American targets in the Middle East if attacks on Iran continue, hardening his public stance as U.S. and Israeli military pressure on the country grows.
In a video message to the nation carried by CBS News, the president announced, “When we are attacked, we have no choice but to respond.” He also warned that the pressure on the nation will be answered with a greater level of retaliation. He also announced that “Our Iran, our country, will not bow easily in the face of bullying, oppression or aggression.”
Pezeshkian also said Iran was not seeking a fight with neighboring Arab states, including countries that host U.S. military bases. He described those nations as “our brothers” and accused Washington of trying to divide the region.
This announcement by the president comes a day after he announced that the nation would stop targeting other Gulf states unless they were attacked first. He apologized for the attacks carried out by the nation on the Gulf states’ territory.
This announcement by the president comes as the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran seems to be expanding into the Middle East region.
