Cebu Province declared a state of calamity after a powerful nighttime earthquake struck near Bogo City at 9:59 p.m. on Sept. 30.
Cebu Provincial Hospital – Bogo reported at least 27 dead and more than 140 injured, with the tally later rising to 154 as additional patients arrived. Critical cases were transferred to tertiary hospitals in Cebu City.
In the provincial resolution, lawmakers put the quake at magnitude 6.9, while the hospital’s first alert listed 6.7.
Officials said the north of Cebu saw collapsed buildings, cracked highways, power outages, and interruptions to basic services.
Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro opened emergency funds and pushed relief teams into the field. Authorities urged residents to follow safety advisories as casualty figures and damage assessments continue to change.
