Historic Thriller in Glasgow: Netherlands Beat Nepal After Third Super Over in T20I Classic

Netherlands clinch dramatic win as historic cricket match extends into third Super Over

    Highlights:
    • First-ever men’s professional match to go into a third Super Over
    • Netherlands won after Nepal collapsed for 0 in third Super Over
    • Rohit Paudel top-scored for Nepal with 48 runs
    • Sandeep Lamichhane took 3 wickets for 18 runs
    • Michael Levitt sealed the game with a six off Lamichhane

Cricket history was made in Glasgow as the Netherlands edged past Nepal in a breathtaking encounter that required not one, not two, but a third Super Over to determine the winner — a feat never before witnessed in men’s professional T20 or List A cricket.

After both teams finished their innings tied on 152, the match entered a dramatic sequence of Super Overs. Nepal, needing 16 in the final over of regulation, saw Nandan Yadav strike 4, 2, 2, and another 4 off Kyle Klein to force the first Super Over.

Daniel Doram, who had bowled brilliantly earlier with figures of 3 for 14, was taken apart by Kushal Bhurtel for 19 runs in the first Super Over. But the Dutch responded with Michael Levitt’s six and Max O’Dowd’s 6 and 4 to send the match into a second Super Over.

“This was one of the most thrilling matches we’ve ever played. The emotions, the pressure — everything was off the charts,” said Netherlands captain Scott Edwards.

Despite Netherlands scoring 17 in their second attempt, Nepal again matched them thanks to Rohit Paudel’s first-ball six and Dipendra Singh Airee’s brilliance. Airee sent Klein over cow corner off the final ball to create history: a third Super Over for the first time ever.

But the fairytale ended there for Nepal. Offspinner Zach Lion-Cachet bowled a superb over, dismissing both Paudel and debutant Rupesh Singh without a run on the board. Levitt, cool under pressure, launched Sandeep Lamichhane for a six to close the match and secure a famous Dutch victory.

    Earlier Highlights

Netherlands, after electing to bat first, put up 152/7. Saqib Zulfiqar’s late flurry boosted their total after spinners Lamichhane (3-18) and Rajbanshi applied the brakes. Nepal’s chase faltered early as Ben Fletcher and Klein struck with the new ball.

Bhurtel (34) and Paudel (48) gave Nepal hope, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Doram’s 3 for 14 was instrumental in keeping Nepal under pressure. With 56 needed in the final five overs, Rupesh and Karan KC tried to accelerate before the match spiraled into cricketing folklore.
