New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez has ordered a criminal investigation into allegations of illegal activity at Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch to be reopened, citing newly surfaced details from previously sealed FBI files and information recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“We are taking a broad and comprehensive look at Zorro Ranch–related matters and working alongside the truth commission and law enforcement partners,” Torrez said. “We will follow the facts and keep the public informed.”
In a statement posted by the New Mexico Department of Justice, Torrez said the state’s earlier investigation was closed in 2019 at the request of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He said the latest revelations outlined in the once-sealed FBI material warrant a renewed examination.
Torrez said special agents and prosecutors at the New Mexico Department of Justice will seek immediate access to the complete, unredacted federal case file. The agency also plans to work with law enforcement partners and the Epstein Truth Commission recently established by the New Mexico Legislature.
The statement said investigators will evaluate jurisdictional issues and take “appropriate investigative action,” including collecting and preserving any relevant evidence that remains available.
Torrez said the review will be “quick and deliberate,” with updates to be provided as appropriate.
