Zelenskyy Says Trump to Host Ukraine-Europe Leaders in Washington in January After Florida Talks

Zelenskyy says security guarantees are central, teams will meet next week, and Trump will host Ukrainian and European leaders in Washington in January.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he met President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday, Dec. 28. In the meeting, both sides made “significant results” on a peace framework, according to Zelenskyy’s statement on X.

Zelenskyy said the two leaders discussed “all aspects” of the framework and the sequence of next steps. He highlighted three areas of agreement: security guarantees as the foundation for a lasting peace, a follow-up meeting between the teams as early as next week to finalize the discussed matters, and Trump’s commitment to host Ukrainian and European leaders in Washington, D.C., in January, Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy also thanked U.S. officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for their engagement, and singled out Ukrainian officials Rustem Umerov and Andrii Hnatov for their work, according to the statement. He ended the message with a brief line: “Ukraine is ready for peace,” Zelenskyy said.

The meeting took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

A participant list from the Florida session showed a seven-member Ukrainian side and a nine-member U.S. side. Ukraine’s group included Oleksandr Bevz, Oleksii Soboliev, Andrii Hnatov, Zelenskyy, Rustem Umerov, Serhii Kyslytsia and Olga Stefanishyna. The U.S. group included Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, Susie Wiles, Marco Rubio, Trump, Pete Hegseth, Gen. Dan Caine, Stephen Miller and Josh Gruenbaum.
