President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington held meetings with heads and top fellows of prominent American policy groups to address trends on the battlefield, technology needs, and imposing tighter sanctions against Russia, the Office of the President of Ukraine said.
The discussion highlighted the front-line situation and Ukraine’s attempts to degrade Russia’s ability to finance the war, and particularly to adopt and expand sanctions on the so-called shadow fleet used for the avoidance of oil embargos. Members also discussed Ukraine’s defense industry strategy, including the growth of drone production, and the ongoing trend of U.S.–Ukraine military-technical cooperation.
Attendees were representatives of leaders and thinkers from the Hudson Institute, American Enterprise Institute, Council on Foreign Relations, Atlantic Council, Center for European Policy Analysis, Institute for the Study of War, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, German Marshall Fund, Jamestown Foundation, International Republican Institute, McCain Institute at Arizona State University, Center for Strategic and International Studies, and America First Policy Institute.
Ukrainian government officials said the meeting addressed also the broader trajectory of relations with the United States and how technology — from unmanned systems to battlefield innovation — can aid Ukraine’s defense in addition to continued sanctions pressure.
