Zelensky Praises Ukraine’s Defense Efforts
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky commended Ukraine’s defense forces for thwarting another wave of Russian drone assaults.
He reported that energy infrastructure in the regions of Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Odesa were among the hardest hit, with emergency crews working to restore power, particularly in Kryvyi Rih. Fifteen civilians, including one child, were injured in the strikes and are receiving medical care.
Trump Issues Tariff Threat Over Ukraine Conflict
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Moscow on Monday, stating that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire within 50 days, the U.S. would impose “very severe tariffs.” Trump made the comments during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
The Kremlin swiftly dismissed the threat. Former Russian president and current deputy chair of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, called Trump’s statement a “theatrical ultimatum to the Kremlin” and added “Russia didn’t care,” according to a post on X. Konstantin Kosachev, deputy speaker of Russia’s Federation Council, also mocked the warning, saying it was unlikely to impact Moscow’s actions.
Context: Russia’s Strategy Unchanged
Zelensky stressed that Russia continues its campaign of aerial and infrastructure-focused terror, and reiterated his call for increased support from Western allies, particularly in the form of additional air defense systems.
